hi, this is Lindsey, YOA violinist from the United States! The past couple weeks of our tour have been really busy! This is definitely a high energy group, (except around 3pm on Bus #1 from Orizaba to Leon..ha) which makes traveling a lot more fun. After our residency in Xalapa, and our first stop in Mexico City, we traveled to Tuxpan. Like all the cities we have been to, the audience was so enthusiastic. We started the concert early because the entire hall was filled with people when we got there.
After Tuxpan, we played at a beautiful church in Huamantla. This concert sticks out in my mind because of an experience I had afterward. I always enjoy greeting the audience members after a concert, if possible. This particular time, a little boy came up to me, and his dad told me he wanted a picture holding a violin. I placed the instrument under his chin, and let him hold it and showed him how to hold the bow. He was so excited..the look on his face was priceless. I hope that he will be able to pursue his interest in music, because that excitement and fascination is what makes someone passionate about what they do. I think that experience illustrates an important part of YOA, and I am so glad I was able to be a part of that this summer. On a side note, I am picking up more Spanish..although last night at the hotel I accidentally told someone “Buenos Dias!” (good morning). Ooops!!
Buenos NOCHES!
Lindsey
